Victorian Ash

(Eucalyptus regnans / delegatensis) - "Mountain / Alpine Ash"

From the mountainous areas of Victoria (also southern NSW & Tas).
The "Mountain Ash" is the tallest of all eucalypt species; in fact, it is one of the tallest tree species in the world, rivalling the heights of the massive Sequoia (California Redwood). Mountain Ash have been officially recorded up to 99.6m in height and up to 22m in girth, but anactdotal reports of even taller trees exist. They are belived to have a lifespan of up to 500 years.

Mountain Ash (E. regnans) is sometimes mixed with Alpine Ash (E. delegatensis) or they may be sold as separate species (depending on source). Heartwood for both species is similar in appearance generally being a pale straw through to pale pink colour.

Victorian Ash is highly suitable for any indoor application including flooring, furniture and joinery. It machines easily with a good finish and accepts stains quite well.

Also referred to as "Vic. Ash" and often substitued for Tasmanian Oak (mostly E. regnans with a mix of other species), however has a low natural durability for a hardwood and is generally not suitable for exterior use unless treated.

Janka Hardness: 4.9
Natural Durability: Class #4
Dry Density: ≈ 650 kg/M3
